After the end of World War II, Simon Wiesenthal dedicated his life to bringing over 1100 Nazi war criminals to justice, including aiding in the capture Adolph Eichmann, one of the chief orchestrators of the Holocaust. Now, watch his story spring to life before your eyes when the Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre presents Wiesenthal this Saturday night!
This sensational off-Broadway play captures the extraordinary life of Holocaust survivor and Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal. In this one-man theatrical achievement, actor and writer Tom Dugan gives an award-winning performance as he embodies this historic hero in his meticulous investigations and unwavering pursuit of justice. The play allows audiences a rare opportunity to go beyond history books and achieve a better understanding of the complexities in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
Since its debut, Wiesenthal won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, three Ovation Award nominations, nominations for the New York Drama Desk Award and Drama Critics’ Circle Award and was featured on PBS’ Theatre Close-Up. Wiesenthal is produced by Jay Kholos and directed by Jenny Sullivan.
Simon Wiesenthal dedicated his life to raising public awareness of the need to hunt and prosecute Nazis who have evaded justice. After liberation, Wiesenthal worked for the War Crimes Section of the United States Army, and in 1947 he opened the Jewish Historical Documentation Center in Austria. For decades, Wiesenthal pressured Western governments to locate and prosecute escaped Nazi offenders and also offered leads that sometimes led to their extradition. Wiesenthal provided information prompting the discovery that Hermine Braunsteiner Ryan, a former concentration camp guard, was living in New York as an unassuming housewife. Braunsteiner Ryan was the first Nazi criminal to be extradited from the US.
