In 1980, Congress granted The National Park Service the responsibility of preserving the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. The site was designated to commemorate Dr. King’s life and legacy. The site now includes the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Historic Fire Station #6, the birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the historic homes of the Sweet Auburn community.
Every day, NPS and its dedicated volunteers serve effortlessly to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We invite you to join us at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site for a National Day of Service, Saturday January 14, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Volunteer projects include painting, planting, park bench restoration, and historic building preservation.
